Carlisle Racecourse general manager Molly Dingwall has praised the team at the Durdar track as they prepare for this Sunday’s Colin Parker Memorial Day.

The feature jumps meeting of the season at Carlisle is headlined by the Colin Parker Memorial Chase.

Dingwall says she is excited by the quality of entries for the race and is pleased with the ground ahead of the meeting despite some spells of heavy rain this week.

She said: “I was pretty giddy when I saw the entries for the race!

“We’re very pleased with [the ground]. The team have done a fabulous job out there this summer.

“Carlisle is a tough place in terms of crazy weather and being a dual purpose track, so for a team of five they certainly out-deliver their numbers.”

Joe Tizzard is hopeful that Fiddlerontheroof can take rank amongst the best chasers in the division this season as he bids to make a winning reappearance in the Listed Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase.

He said: “He’s in great form and this has been the target for some time off the back of last year.

“He’s in good heart, he was second in the Brown Advisory and came up against all of the best staying novice chasers last season. Although he’s got a lot of seconds against his name he wasn’t disgraced at all and I think he’s a horse that’s improving with age, so we’re looking forward to it.”

The 15-strong list of entries for Sunday’s two and a half mile contest includes dual Grade One-winning novice Chantry House, as well as Sporting John, Fusil Raffles and Ahoy Senor.

Tizzard added: “It looks as hot a race as we’ve had for a few years on entries, I was quite keen to do what we did with Lostintranslation and hack round on the bridle to be honest!

“It looks a hell of a race and there are some good horses at the moment, but we are committed to taking our chance. It fits in perfectly to where we want to go and I’m sure Molly Dingwall has got the ground perfect.

“We’ve sent good horses up to Carlisle in the past and for a second season novice it’s a lovely time to start.

“It’s an extremely fair course and a good jumping track and it’s just a good option for second season chasers at this time of year.”
