Carlisle United chairman Andrew Jenkins says Blues chiefs are in "regular" takeover talks - but they will not conduct matters through the media.

The co-owner and director refers to the ownership "succession" issue in his programme notes today.

Jenkins says club bosses are "fully aware" that it is a key issue and a concern of fans.

But the chairman does not refer to the individual concerned or any possible timescale linked to talks.

It is widely understood that wealthy businessman Philip Day is the person speaing to the Blues hierarchy.

Jenkins, in his notes ahead of the Tranmere Rovers game at Brunton Park, says: "I would like to address something which keeps appearing as a topic of discussion, and a concern to fans - that of succession.

"I can inform supporters that we continue, on a regular basis, with talking to a possible investor wanting to take over the club.

"These discussions are and will always be carried out in a business-like fashion in private, and not in local newspapers or other media.

"We are fully aware that it is a key issue and we are looking to address it.

"As and when we have something positive to announce we will inform everybody through the usual channels."

Jenkins also comments on Chris Beech's departure, saying: "I can't remember anyone disagreeing" when the head coach was offered a new deal last Christmas."

He adds that "it is an example of how cruel things change in football" how matters have unfolded since then.

"We are now on the hunt again for a replacement, which is a disruption I didn't expect as we wer looking forward to a period of stability," Jenkins adds.

"In the meantime, Gavin [Skelton] and Eric [Kinder] will take over training and first-team affairs, assisted by David [Holdsworth], and we will announce a replacement in due course, as and when we are in a position to do so."

Comment: Why 'succession' and not simply 'takeover' at Carlisle United?
