Carlisle United will host fellow League Two club Oldam Athletic in the first round of the FA Youth Cup.

The Blues' Under-18s were the first team out of the hat in this afternoon's draw.

And Mark Birch's team were handed a tie against a young Latics side in a tie to be played in the next month.

The young Blues reached the third round last season and will be hoping to embark on another run this time in youth football's biggest domestic cup.

It will be a chance for some highly-regarded young United players to impress, such as some who have been in the first-team squad like defenders Jack Ellis and Max Kilsby and keepers Scott Simons and Gabe Breeze.

Sam Fishburn could also feature unless the Cumbrians loan out the striker again.

Oldham, whose first team is managed by ex-United manager Keith Curle, until recently had former Blues favourite Paul Murray as academy manager.

He left earlier this year in one of several controversial episodes under the highly-criticised ownership of Abdallah Lemsagam.

Conor Marlin stepped up in interim charge.

The tie must be played by November 6.

The full first round draw can be accessed via the FA website.

United's youth side, meanwhile, earned a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury in the league today thanks to a Nic Bollado goal.
