Swindon Town's new boss says the club want a longer look at Harry McKirdy before committing to a deal.

The Robins - Carlisle United's second opponents of the new League Two season - are monitoring the ex-Blues forward in a trial period.

McKirdy scored twice in a friendly agaist Swindon Supermarine.

The Blues' 2019/20 top scorer also featured in a 1-0 defeat to Weymouth on Saturday.

New head coach Ben Garner said Swindon are well aware of McKirdy's attributes as a player, as well as his character.

“Harry, we’re going to have a longer look at," Garner told the Swindon Advertiser.

"He did well against Weymouth, he just needs to get his fitness levels up.

“We know what ability he’s got, we know him well historically as a player.

"We’ve done our due diligence on him in terms of his character, so we just want a little bit of a longer look at him.” Swindon face Peterborough in another friendly on Saturday.

McKirdy, 24, scored 11 goals in 38 appearances in the 2019/20 season for United before being released.

He was with Port Vale last season. Swindon host United on the second weekend of the 2021/22 campaign.
