Jordan Pickford said England are still in control of their destiny at Euro 2020 despite last night’s poor display against Scotland.

The ex-Carlisle United goalkeeper was one of few Three Lions players to come out with credit from the 0-0 Group D draw.

England’s underwhelming display – in contrast to Scotland’s often bright showing – has attracted plenty of criticism.

There were some boos from fans at Wembley at full-time but Pickford highlighted the defensive aspect of their performance.

“It was a massive game, and we want to take all three points every game we play, but the biggest thing was if we can’t win it, don’t get beat,” said the Everton No1.

“There was the resilience of keeping a clean-sheet from the lads.

“We’ve got four points, are still in control of the group and we’ve got to get ready for the Czech Republic now.”

While Gareth Southgate’s side struggled to make an attacking impression against Steve Clarke’s Scots, Pickford at least produced a solid display in goal.

He made one excellent first-half stop from Stephen O’Donnell.

Asked about his personal showing, he said: “I thought [I had] a good performance.

“I made one good save and came and commanded a few crosses.

“They put pressure on but it’s about being in that moment as a goalkeeper and helping your team-mates out.

“I felt I did that and it’s another clean-sheet.”

England face the Czech Republic on Tuesday when a point will be enough to seal a last-16 place, while Scotland will be aiming for victory over Croatia.
