Cumbrian striker Ryan Bowman has earned a move to League One.

The Carlisle-born frontman has signed for Shrewsbury Town.

The move sees 29-year-old Bowman leave Exeter after two-and-a-half seasons in Devon.

The ex-Carlisle United player has signed a two-year deal with a one-year option after the Shrews paid an undisclosed fee for his services.

Bowman his 14 goals for Exeter last term and Shrewsbury manager Steve Cotterill is delighted to have landed the Cumbrian.

Speaking on the Shrews website, Cotterill said of Bowman: “He's all action, he does everything.

"He's played up front by himself which is a rarity these days with strikers. He runs hard, he runs quick and he runs in behind teams which is another rarity.

"He holds the ball up well and has a good touch for a big man. He scored 14 goals last season, none of them penalties. I don’t see any reason why he won’t score as many goals here as he has for Exeter.

"There is a shortage of free agents up top at the moment. We’ve ended up paying a fee for Ryan but I think it will be money well spent."

Bowman started out with his home-city club and won a professional deal at Carlisle after a prolific spell with the youth team.

He made nine sub appearances but had to build his career elsewhere after being released.

Bowman went on to have spells at Darlington, Hereford, York, Torquay and Gateshead before a switch to Motherwell in 2016.

After three years in Scotland he returned to England with Exeter, and hit 34 goals in his time at St James' Park.

His move to Montgomery Waters Meadow now sees Bowman join a Shrewsbury side that finished 17th in the third tier last season.
