WORKINGTON Town Boss Chris Thorman says that despite a lofty league position there’s still a bit of work to be done by the squad.

Town currently sit joint second in the Betfred League 1 table, but Thorman says there is still more to come from his side.

Despite a victory over Keighley Cougars at the weekend, the town head coach has highlighted area’s for his team to work on in training this week ,ahead of their trip to Coventry Bear’s on Sunday.

He said: “Were sitting pretty and the league table looks nice enough but as a group were not quite satisfied with the performance at the minute, we know we have still got a bit of work to do.”

“I’ve got exactly the same opinion as I did after the game on Sunday, I thought that we were just oright.”

“We set some standards in pre-season that for me personally we have not quite put into practice, that’s a little bit to do with our goal line defence and a little bit how were not quite respecting the ball enough , it’s probably a combination of a couple of things.”

Thorman also gave an update on long-term injury absentee Elliot Miller.

The former Millom amateur gained a back and shoulder injury some time ago but still has a way to go before getting back on the pitch.

Thorman said: “It’s such a significant injury, it’s a little bit, well were in the unknwn I suppose.”

“It’s just a day by day thing thing with Elliot still. He wasn’t able to run for a over a year that alone tells me he needs at least two months preparation, he’s only been back training a couple of weeks.”

Town face seventh place Coventry Bear’s away this weekend.

The Head Coach thinks that the squad are working on two ain elements ahead of the match- respect for the ball and goal defence.

He said: “Since I arrived at the club we don’t respect the ball enough, and that’s just an attitude thing, you know.”

“We have got lot’s of good players, but the other teams that we play have got lots of good player’s too.”

“If we respect the opposition more and by that,if we respect the ball more and we don’t give them as much ball in field position terribly close to our line then they don’t become as much of a threat but also our goal line defence needs to improve.”

“The first three games we were averaging 16 points and in the last couple games we were edging towards 20, if we want to achieve anything we need to be averaging less than 18 points in this competition.”

The next match against Coventy Bear’s will kick off at 3pm on Sunday, June 13.
