A goalkeeper popping up with a last-minute winner...now where have we heard that before?

Liverpool No1 Alisson grabbed the headlines with a dramatic header which earned a 2-1 win against West Brom.

And the remarkable scenes at the Hawthorns inevitably brought comparisons with the greatest goalscoring keeper of them all - Carlisle United's Jimmy Glass.

Some 22 years after Glass saved the Blues from relegation to non-league with his sensational goal against Plymouth, Liverpool's keeper became the latest gloveman to show his finishing skills.

He rose to bury a superb header for Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Brazilian later dedicated the goal to his late father.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I hope he was here to see it, I'm sure he is celebrating with God at his side."

He added: "I'm too emotional, this last month for everything that has happened with me and my family, but football is my life, I played since I can remember with my father.

"Sometimes you are fighting and things aren't happening. I'm really happy to help them because we fight together and have a strong goal to achieve the Champions League, because we have won it once and everything starts with qualification.

"So I can't be more happy than I am now."

Alisson's feat inevitably triggered numerous references to Glass on social media.

There was also a mention from Scarborough Athletic, the club that was formed after the demise of Scarborough FC - the club Glass's goal relegated on May 8, 1999...
