Carlisle United's Cumbrian rivals Barrow AFC are looking for their FOURTH boss in the space of a year.

It comes after Rob Kelly, the caretaker manager who led them to League Two safety, turned down the chance to take the job permanently.

The Bluebirds today announced that Kelly did not want to be considered for the position.

It leaves Barrow looking for another new leader, after the earlier short-lived reigns of David Dunn and Michael Jolley following last summer's departure of Ian Evatt.

In a statement, Barrow chairman Paul Hornby said: “I would like to thank Rob for his contribution during the past season.

“I also thank him for his honesty during our discussions and for providing a decision in a timely fashion, which now gives us the opportunity to move forward quickly with alternative plans.

“It’s another big summer for the club and we won’t waste a second in bringing the right man in to take us forward and ensure we can enjoy a strong 2021/22 in the EFL.”

Barrow - where ex-Carlisle boss Neil McDonald has been assisting Kelly - are now inviting applications for the top job.

The vastly-experienced Kelly took the temporary help after the seven-game reign of Jolley ended in February.

The 56-year-old helped guide Barrow to safety by picking up a string of crucial victories which took them away from the serious risk of an immediate return to the National League.

They finished the campaign in 21st place, five points above the relegation places.
