Chris Beech hopes play-off chasing Carlisle United’s strong record at Brunton Park can again come to the fore when they face Port Vale tomorrow.

The Blues boast the most home wins and goals in League Two this season.

And that record will need to be further boosted if they are to stop Vale in their tracks.

Tomorrow’s resurgent opponents (kick-off 12.30pm) have won their last six games.

Victory could put Carlisle in the play-off places, with the Cumbrians themselves in improved form and unbeaten in five.

“It’s no concern at all to me of going on some sort of run or doing certain things,” head coach Beech said.

“It’s a simple equation. We’ve got a good team to play against on Saturday, and we’ve got an excellent home record to protect and enhance.

“What we need to do is make sure we have a real good go against a strong Port Vale team.”

Darrell Clarke’s Valiants have climbed away from relegation trouble and currently sit 14th, nine points outside the play-off places.

A top-seven charge may seem unlikely but Beech believes the Burslem outfit will not have given up hope of a dramatic late charge.

“They can end up on 68 points and they might feel they’ve got a chance if it’s all concertinaed, and they have to win every game.

“I’d like it if we can win every game, but we just have to concentrate on Port Vale, simple as that.”

Vale could include former Blues Luke Joyce, Shaun Brisley, David Amoo and Mark Cullen.

Beech said his players have already defied gloomy predictions and criticism in recent weeks after they banished a spell of poor form.

Their improved efforts followed a spell of one win in 13 which saw the Cumbrians tumble down the table.

Eleven points from the last 15 have revived their hopes and Beech said: “I’m sure everybody’s raving about us [nearly] getting knocked out [of the FA Cup] against Hayes & Yeading, I’m sure everybody said we’re finished because coronavirus has been in the building, I’m sure it’s everybody else’s fault.

“It’s not, the lads just have to ignore the background noise and concentrate on opportunity.

“There’s one there. We’ve worked so hard, with more discrepancy than any other club to get to this position.

“Let’s try and embrace it, honour it, but it’s a football match, it’s Port Vale, it’s winnable and loseable – we have to make sure we’re ready for it and respect them, of course we will.”
