Former Carlisle United hero Brian Wake has swapped Sweden for Denmark in his latest coaching role.

The ex-Blues striker has joined Danish outfit Kjellerup IF.

Wake, 38, had previously been with Swedish side Ostersunds.

The man whose hat-trick at Shrewsbury famously kept Carlisle in the Football League back in 2003 said he was excited for the new challenge.

He also said he had made the move for family reasons, with his young son living in Denmark.

Speaking on his new club's website, Wake said his three-year-old son James "is my absolute first priority and being able to spend more time with him is the most important thing.

"That I can now be involved in Kjellerup IF suits me perfectly. That way, I can continue to work on my passion while living a more ordinary family life with my son.

"Kjellerup IF as a club has been very accommodating to me, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to become a coach in the club, which I have seen several times when I have been in Denmark.

"I look forward to helping the players develop, both as football players but also as people."

Wake has been based in Sweden since 2011 as the final period of his playing career turned into a coaching career in the country.

The striker made 52 appearances and scored 11 goals for United from 2002-4 after joining from non-league Tow Law Town.

He went on to play for Gretna, Scarborough, Hamilton, Morton and Gateshead before moving to Sweden.
