WORKINGTON Reds will relaunch their bid for league success against Pickering Town next month.

Danny Grainger’s side will go to North Yorkshire for their new-season opener on Saturday, September 19.

The Northern Premier League North West Division curtain-raiser will be a bottom-v-top clash based on how the table stood when 2019/20 was curtailed by Covid-19.

Reds also faced Pickering in their opening game of last season, although that was at Borough Park.

Workington’s first home league game will be against Trafford on Tuesday, September 29.

The festive period for Grainger’s side will see a trip to Dunston on Boxing Day and a home clash with Pontefract Collieries on New Year’s Day.

Cumbrian derbies with Kendal will be on October 12 at Parkside Road and January 30 at Borough Park, while Easter fixtures see a trip to City of Liverpool on Easter Saturday and a home game against Dunston on Easter Monday.

The west Cumbrians will end their campaign with a home game against Colne on Saturday, May 8.

By that stage Grainger will be hoping to have led his side to glory after the table-topping Reds were denied promotion last season when their division was declared null and void.

A week before their league opener, Reds will have an FA Cup preliminary round game at Glasshoughton or Knaresborough.

Workington, meanwhile, will play their sixth pre-season friendly on Tuesday night against Cleator Moor Celtic.

It will be the first with a crowd allowed back at Borough Park, with attendance limited to 200.
