Carlisle United are on alert for a transfer windfall with their former striker Sam Cosgrove the subject of growing speculation.

Cosgrove, who left the Blues for Aberdeen in 2018, is reportedly wanted by Championship side Stoke.

According to The Sun, the Potters are keen to strike a £2m deal for Cosgrove.

The Daily Record, though, has reported today that Aberdeen may resist selling the ex-Wigan man at that price.

Cosgrove has scored 42 goals in 79 appearances having joined the Pittodrie club from the Blues for around £40,000.

United's supporters' trust CUOSC last month said the club would benefit if Cosgrove is sold by Aberdeen.

In minutes from a members' meeting, the trust's United Holdings board representative Billy Atkinson "confirmed there were sell-on clauses for both Sam Cosgrove and [Manchester United's] Dean Henderson".

The transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday.

Stoke have also been linked with a move for Dundee United's ex-Carlisle trialist Lawrence Shankland if they cannot land Cosgrove, who scored one goal in 12 Blues appearances after a succesful trial spell in 2017/18 before being snapped up by Aberdeen.
