Cleator set up a County Cup semi-final tie at home to Carlisle as the result of an impressive win against Penrith.

Penrith were invited to bat on their visit to the JD Campbell Memorial Ground and were looking at scoring more than five an over to put a challenging target on the board.

In fact, they fell a little short as they made 188-8 from their 40 overs with Sam Hall (57) and Henry Marshall (48) the main contributors. Adam Hodgson had Cleator’s best bowling return with 3-25.

The target, in fact, proved well within Cleator’s compass as they reached victory at 191-2 and still had three overs to spare.

Architects of the victory were Darren Clark who made 78 not out from 98 balls, and Dave Watson who made a typically belligerent 59 from 72 deliveries.

Watson struck six fours and three sixes while Clark notched 11 fours.

Cleator will host Carlisle in the semi-final while Cockermouth entertain Dalton in the other. No dates have been confirmed.
