Surrey's Cumbrian all-rounder Jordan Clark took three wickets in the match to help his team earn their first County Championship win of the season against Warwickshire.

Former Cleator Cricket Club man Clark, 28, first performed with the bat at The Oval as he contributed 26 of Surrey’s first-innings total of 194 all out. Toby Lester (4-41) and Craig Miles (3- 58) led the way with the ball for Warwickshire.

In reply, Whitehaven-born Clark, whose brother Graham also plays professionally for Durham, took three wickets, as did South African Morne Morkel and Sam Curran, to dismiss Warwickshire for 230, restricting their first-innings lead to only 36.

Clark didn’t deliver with the bat in the second innings for Surrey and scored just nine off seven balls, before he was caught by wicket-keeper Tim Ambrose off the bowling of Miles.

But half-centuries from opener Mark Stoneman (71), Dean Elgar (53) and Curran (52) helped Surrey set Warwickshire a target of 290 to win.

Then, on the final day yesterday, Clark wasn’t among the wickets, ending with figures of 0-35, but veteran spinner Gareth Batty turned the screw and ended with figures of 4-34 to help dismiss Warwickshire for 215 and earn Surrey a 74-run success.

“Great effort from all the lads and loved my first Champo [County Championship] win, wearing the three feathers,” Clark wrote on his Instagram account.

Clark agreed to join Surrey from Lancashire last August on a three-year deal.
