Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson will be aiming for international glory this summer after being named in England's squad for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

The Manchester United prospect, from Whitehaven, is in a 23-man squad for the finals which take place in Italy and San Marino next month.

Henderson helped Sheffield United win promotion to the Premier League in a successful loan spell last season.

That reportedly put the former Carlisle United academy player on Gareth Southgate's radar with a view to future full England recognition.

In the short term, though, Henderson will try and help Aidy Boothroyd's U21s to success.

England face France, Romania and Croatia in their group games on June 18, 21 and 24 respectively.

Henderson, 22, will compete with Southampton's Angus Gunn and Newcastle's Freddie Woodman for the goalkeeping position.

Boothroyd's squad also includes top-flight and Championship stars such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, James Maddison, Phil Foden, Mason Mount, Ryan Sessegnon, Tammy Abraham, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Demarai Gray.
