Carlisle United’s League Two play-off hopes have been delivered another dent with Newport County beating Oldham Athletic 2-0.

Goals from Mark O’Brien and Robbie Willmott put the Exiles in pole position last night for the final play-off place as Mike Flynn’s side used their game in hand to leapfrog the pack and move into seventh place ahead of the final day of the season.

They end their season at Morecambe this Saturday.

A point further back are Exeter who take on fifth-placed Forest Green Rovers who have already secured a play-off berth.

Colchester, in ninth, travel to Lincoln’s Sincil Bank where they will be hoping to spoil the Imps’ party as they are crowned League Two champions.

Meanwhile Carlisle, who visit Yeovil, are now in 10th place, three points behind Newport and now realistically are relying on the Exiles - as well as Exeter - to lose and for Colchester to drop points to break back into the top seven.

Stevenage are also level on 67 points with Carlisle and will play host to Cheltenham in their final game this term.
