Lincoln captain Jason Shackell has been hit with a misconduct charge over an incident in the Imps' recent defeat to Carlisle United.

The defender is facing a Football Association rap over his reaction to the fourth official moments after he had been sent off in the 29th minute.

Shackell was dismissed for two bookable offences by referee Lee Mason during United's 1-0 win on Good Friday, appearing then to confront the fourth official as he headed to the tunnel.

A statement issued on the FA Spokesperson Twitter account this afternoon said: "Jason Shackell has been charged with misconduct following Lincoln City’s game against Carlisle United in the EFL League Two on Friday [19/04/2019].

"It is alleged the defender’s behaviour towards the fourth official, which followed his dismissal from the field of play, amounts to improper and/or violent conduct."

Shackell has until 6pm this Friday to respond.
