Workington’s Station Road A completed a superb division two league/playoff double this week in the Window Outlet Cockermouth and District Snooker League with a 4-1 top-four final victory over fellow townies The United Club.
Tom Thompson kicked the proceedings off for Station A with a 72-33 win before Darren Lawson won the second 47-21.
The third saw Station A’s Mike Walker beat United’s Clive Lister 58-48 to take them 3-0 up.
League champions Station A now only needed one frame to take the trophy but United Club captain Andrew Mitchelhill defeated Keith Telford 74-8 to pull one back.
In what turned out to be the final frame of the match John Teasdale’s 57-36 win saw the Station A cueist take the frame, match and title to the delight of his team-mates.
The second semi-final of the division one top-four play-offs also took place this week with league champions Station Road B making the final with a 4-2 win over Workington’s Veterans Club.
Vets captain Kevin Basnett took the first after a long tactical battle but it was Peter O’Hagan who made it 1-1 with a win in the next.
Mike Dawson used all his experience to put the Vets 2-1 up but as Shaun Ayre won a crucial fourth frame on the pink the score was 2-2.
At this point in the match Station B upped their game and with two comprehensive victories for Simon Frazer and captain Stephen O’Hagan the league champions moved into next week’s final where they will face Workington Conservative Club.
