A women's team from Carlisle Reivers Pan-Disability Football Club have reached the FA People’s Cup final.

The finals will be held at St George’s Park on the weekend of April 27 and April 28. In total, Carlisle Reivers had four teams competing in the regional semi-finals in Sunderland at the weekend, with the Ladies’ side given a bye to the final.

Despite Carlisle Reivers’ Under-16s side finishing top of their table, they lost in their final and the adults team didn’t fare particularly well. But the Ladies side have made the final, with the overall winners set to be invited to this season’s FA Cup final.

“They [the Ladies team] didn’t play at the weekend. They had got an automatic bye through to the finals, so they are playing in Derby on April 27,” said founder Paul Allen whose son, Joshua, plays for the club.

“So, that’s good. They are a newly-formed team.

"As a club, we are going from strength-to-strength. We started nearly two years ago for my son who has cerebral palsy because there were no teams. Now, we have got three adult males teams, a women’s team, an Under-16 teams and an Under-12 team.

"I think they were disappointed that they weren’t playing at the weekend but also, by the same account, they are chuffed that they get to go down to the home of English football in St George’s Park.”

Captain Claire Burgess added: “Some of the lasses are buzzing now.”
