Carlisle Cricket Club’s youth system is continuing to bear fruits with one of their prospects set to tour The United Arab Emirates.

All-rounder Stan Mcalindon, 14, has been invited by Durham to represent an academy team at the Gulf Cup which is an annual junior competition.

On the 12-day tour, which will see Mcalindon head out for Ajman on December 28 and return on Janaury 9, the Durham side could come up against other teams from across the globe.

"It is quite a long time that they will be out there for and it’s a tough trip," said Stan’s dad, Mark.

"John Windows [academy director] at Durham said there could well be teams from Pakistan, South Africa, an academy from India and a team from Nepal.

"So, there will be a real contrast in styles and some really talented kids from around the world."

Stan, alongside other Cumbrian youngsters, have also attracted interest from Lancashire and were invited on a trial with the the Red Rose county.

Young first-team players, Jonathan Davidson and Henry Walker, also turned out for Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s academy in a two-day victory against Warwickshire in July.

Mark, who is also involved in junior coaching at Carlisle, said: "Hopefully, it shows that we are doing something right at Carlisle Cricket Club with some of our talented young players, not just Stan, attracting interest from first-class counties.

"It shows we have the ability and facilities to produce players."
