The last weekend of the Eden Valley Cricket League season, like so many of late, suffered badly from the weather and clubs struggling to raise sides.

Sunday was a non-event. Three Sunday League sides conceded and the final Division One game at Carlisle was a victim of the weather.

Of the seven games that beat the weather on Saturday, congratulations to Scotby who clinched the Division One title with their win at Nunwick.

In the Premiership, the games at Carlisle and Lanercost were lost to the weather.

It was a nostalgic afternoon at Braithwaite with Jason and Dan Pyke bringing the curtain down on their Braithwaite journey.

Temple Sowerby (149/9), in deep trouble at 28/6, rallied thanks to Sam Hutt (34 not out), James Nicholson (30) and Nick Scaiffe (12 not out); Gilbert Pyke (3/17) and Lee Zaninetti (3/25) leading bowlers.

Braithwaite (153/1) eased to victory and how appropriate that Jason (77 not out) and Dan (52 not out) were responsible for the win. Our best wishes to both Pyke boys, who have graced our league with their abilities over the years, as they move on with their careers.

Threlkeld (76/5) beat Stainton (73/10) by five wickets and Kirkby Stephen were victors over Staffield. Unfortunately, no details are available.

In Division One, the game at Wetheral, versus Appleby Eden, was rained off and, sadly, Keswick 2nds were unable to raise a team for their game at Edenhall.

Wigton 2nds (98/1) comprehensively beat Langholm by nine wickets.

Langholm (96/10) with only Nicky Piszczykiewicz (33) coping with Dean Thomlinson (5/16) and Lewis Little (4/14). Wigton cantered home with Josh Dixon (43 not out) leading the way.

Scotby (53/2) ended their season, defeating Nunwick (50/9) by eight wickets. Nick Rigg (3/4), Dan Swann (2/5) and James Swann (2/12) running through the home side; Andy Crellen (28) and Peter Gower Snr (18 not out) taking Scotby to their win.

In Division Two, Appleby Eden 2nds conceded their game with Kirkby Stephen 2nds, and Irthing Vale versus Lanercost 2nds was another victim of the weather.

Caldbeck 2nds (127/1) beat Penrith 3rds (123/9) in a reduced overs game; Nigel Fowles (47) holding the Penrith innings together.

Caldbeck, using all 10 outfield players bowling two overs apiece; Craig Pattinson (3/4). Kyle Brough (41), Craig Pattinson (38 not out) and Graham Wetherell (27 not out) seeing Caldbeck home. Penrith, too, used nine bowlers.

Patterdale (94/1) ended their season, beating Temple Sowerby 2nds (93/10) by nine wickets.

This brings a soggy end to the season after the glorious sunny middle part of the season which now seems a distant memory.

There are clearly several issues which need to be dealt with by the officers and committee during the close-season, such as the League Cup and the possible demise of some clubs.

Finally, I can report that Appleby will be returning home next season.

The old pavilion has been demolished and construction of the new is under way. The ground work has just about been completed and the newly levelled and re-seeded outfield had its first cut last week.

It will be nice in so many ways to be back home. To say the last three seasons have been traumatic would be an understatement.
