Secretary Mark Davidson admits Carlisle Cricket Club have a big couple of weeks coming up as they aim to finish their 2018 season in style.

Tomorrow, Carlisle’s Under-19s will look to retain their title when they visit Whitehaven to take part in the T20 Finals Day.

Carlisle came out on top in the the 2017 Natwest Under-19 T20 finals day in June, with the event held over from last season, but will be without first-team bowler Henry Walker this time.

The club will then host a big day of entertainment next Saturday at Edenside which will see the first-team end their North Lancs and Cumbria Premier Division season against Workington.

“We are reigning Under-19s champions and, obviously, we will be trying to defend the title,” Davidson said.

“In our semi-final, we will either play Kendal, Netherfield or Penrith. There will be two semi-finals and then the final, which is the same format as it was here.

“Unfortunately, Henry Walker will not be playing. But we are hopeful of retaining our title. Defending it won’t be easy, though.

“We are probably not favourites, actually, but that is OK with us.”

Following the success of Edenfest earlier this summer, Carlisle will host a Ginfest next weekend.

“The Eden Valley League finishes this weekend, so we will only have the first-team playing on September 15. There will be external bars and there will be a BBQ going on all day,” Davidson said.

“Then, that will be followed by the end-of-season presentation night that evening.”

And with Carlisle’s first-team currently fourth in the Premier Division table, Davidson says it has been another encouraging campaign.

“Obviously, it looks like the first-team won’t win the league but we have still had a great season,” he added.
