Secretary Mark Davidson has hailed Carlisle Cricket Club’s 2018 season as a success.

On the field, Carlisle secured fourth in the North Lancs/Cumbria Premier Division with a two-wicket home win over Workington last Saturday.

There was also plenty to keep spectators entertained throughout the day with a second GinFest of the season at Edenside, including a barbecue and music from X Factor finalist Mike Bromley, which was followed by the end-of-season presentations that evening.

Davidson was delighted with how the day had gone as Carlisle ended their summer campaign in style.

“So, another season ends at Edenside with the first-team bringing the curtain down on Saturday with a two-wicket win over Workington, which complimented an outstanding final day of summer,” Davidson said.

“A superb Gin festival and a memorable presentation evening saw Carlisle Cricket Club at its very best.

"The people, the place and the cricket is what makes Edenside such an outstanding venue.”

Davidson also highlighted some of the successes Carlisle had enjoyed away from first-team level.

He said: “On the field, we’ve had success with Beast [Olly Bradley’s] army steam-rollering their way to an Eden Valley cup and league double – unprecedented. What a season.

“Our Under-19s became NatWest T20 Cumbria champions and will defend the title in the newly-sponsored Vitality T20 tournament early in the new season.

"A thoroughly deserved Finals’ day win on a drizzly Sunday afternoon back in June.

“Our other teams, too, have had excellent seasons, both at junior and senior level, a fine testament to the outstanding coaching team at Edenside.”

But Davidson reserved special praise for the groundstaff at the club.

“[David] Reedy, Matthew [Smith], Tricky [Andy Trickett] and co do an outstanding job and get through an amazing amount of work, much of it unseen but all of it greatly appreciated,” he said.

“Similarly, our hard-working general committee put in lots of effort, led by chairman Mike Rayson.”

Davidson added a number of events are in the process of being planned throughout the close-season before again hosting the club dinner in March, ahead of the 2019 season.
