Workington Town winger John Patrick will have a knee scan this week after getting injured in Sunday's win over Oldham.
Patrick, who rejoined his former club last month after answering an SOS, was forced off early on during his side's 32-30 victory.
Town are not in action this week, but their Super 8's campaign gets underway against Oldham on Sunday, August 7.
Patrick is a major doubt for the start of the Championship Shield and joins a list of long-term absentees which includes Chris Murphy.
Head coach Phil Veivers said: "John's been good since he came back and put us on the front foot in games.
"If he doesn't make next weekend's game it will be a huge blow."
Veivers will have to manage without Karl Olstrom for the start of the Super 8's after the 24-year-old was handed a two-game ban and £100 fine for striking Dave Allen in the derby against Whitehaven.
But Town could have Sam Forrester back from a thumb injury for next weekend's trip to Oldham.
Veivers added: "I've not got many wingers with Brett Phillips, John Patrick and Theerapol Ritson out.
"With Sam coming back it would fill a spot."
Town will travel to Oldham, Swinton, Sheffield and Halifax in the Super 8's and will host Dewsbury, Bradford and Whitehaven.
