Workington Junior Squash Club can now boast two county champions after a successful weekend.
The Workington club saw Liam White and Josh Tang represent them at the annual junior county squash championships, held at Carlisle Squash Club on Saturday.
Liam finished the day as under-11 champion, in his first ever county championship event.
He got off to a nervous start, initially going 2-0 down in his first match, before pulling off the comeback of the tournament to win 3-2.
Liam then cruised through his next match to set up a final with Ollie Pritchard from Carlisle.
Liam was in control from the start and took the county title, winning the final 3-0.
Josh was the tournament favourite and number one seed in the boys under-13 category.
He sailed through the early rounds to set up a final with the number two seed, Carlisle’s Nathan Sellers.
Josh overpowered his opponent in the first two games, before losing his concentration and the third game.
However, the Workington boy hit back in the fourth game to win the final 3-1, winning Workington’s second junior county title of the day.
A proud day for Workington Junior Squash Club was complete as Josh Tang was awarded with the Matthew Allison trophy - awarded for great sportsmanship, fairness and integrity.
Workington Junior Squash Club runs weekly, on Monday’s 6.40pm - 7:40pm. Sessions are run by Cumbria county squash coach, Gavin Stephenson. All juniors are welcome.
