OUR readers reacted to the news that a Penrith care home resident has celebrated her 102nd birthday in style. 

Eva Bowness was born at Kirby Thore Hall on January 15 1922 and, to mark her 102nd birthday, a 1920s-themed party was thrown in her honour at Penrith's HC-ONE Winters Park Care Home. 

The party was attended by care home staff, Eva's relatives, friends, fellow residents, and the wider community, with the Mayor of Penrith Doug Lawson, and officers from the local Eden police constabulary also stopping by to celebrate.

Joanne Bowness commented: "Proud to say this is my nana."

Declan McSweeney replied and said: "Congratulations to her," while Shirallee Munday Haggart said: "Many happy returns to your nana."

Kerry Ostle said: "Happy birthday Eva, you haven’t changed a bit. Lovely to see you celebrating with your Brampton friends."

Shelagh Potter added: "Eva made my time working at Wasdale so welcoming, some lady, so many stories to tell, a fascinating lady."
