WE shared the news that plans have been announced to merge two separate medical practices in Carlisle.

SSP Health Ltd, the largest NHS GP Group in the North West, has proposed that Warwick Road Surgery and Fusehill Medical Practice will be merged under the new title of Central Carlisle Practice in April 2024.

This change will merge the contracts and practice systems together, but services will continue to be provided from both sites and patients will be able to access appointments at both sites.

The existing practice boundaries will also remain unchanged.

Here's how readers reacted.

Pat Kirkup said: "Evidently this will mainly affect admin staff. More available office space in one of the surgeries. Time will tell."

James Whitfield said: "Been at Warwick Road surgery for 55 years. Always good."

Victoria Godderidge added: "Don't think a merge is a good idea, no parking and not on the bus route for elderly or disabled people."

John Hall said: "My surgery is merging into this one, hopefully it makes it easier to get appointments not like the others that merged. The others use an e-consult to get an appointment where the doctor has to ring you back with an appointment."

Jean Milgate commented: "There are no parking facilities at Warwick Road surgery so that is no good to me. So no to merging from me."
