OUR readers reacted positively to a new artisan bakery offering sweet treats and gourmet savoury snacks to Carlisle.

Dough-Luxe, which opened on Thursday, December 7, is located in the city's market hall on Scotch Street, in stall 41, and stocks homemade treats from doughnuts and fudge cakes to focaccias and sausage rolls.

The business is owned by Carlisle-born and bred Andy King, who has been able to realise his dream of owning a bakery.

Victoria Claire Irving said: "Sounds good I like the look of the lemon meringue pie," while Susan Weston said: "Cheesecake is my favourite."

Maria Beattie commented: "The caramel shortbread best I have ever had was delicious, you must try it or any of the gorgeous looking cakes."

Ann Hirst said: "Biscoff doughnuts are unreal," and Fiona Barwick said: "Pecan pie was delicious."

Nicky Wetherell said: "I had a doughnut from here it was gorgeous. Can’t wait to try more."

Dough-Luxe was also recently boosted by being awarded a five out of five food hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency.

In the future, Andy hopes to expand his savoury options and offer coffees at his market stall, whilst also continuing to refine his patisserie.
