The new Tesco-owned One Stop Shop, in the former premises of the Bounty Inn on Victory Crescent, Maryport, will open on Thursday, March 3.
Work on fitting out the store began this week and 12 jobs have been created.
The Bounty Inn, a popular Maryport pub, was placed in receivership in 2010.
It was put up for sale as a going concern by the Convivial Group.
It continued trading under a series of managers until October 2014 when a notice appeared on the door, with no prior warning, to say it was then closed.
The pub was bought by West Midlands company SEP Properties.
It has also applied to build a small bungalow next to the pub.
SEP Properties redeveloped the building to enable a store to move in, although at the time it did not have a tenant in mind.
Plans for the redevelopment were approved by Allerdale council last April.
