ST Bees has a new group aiming to make it one of Cumbria’s first plastic-free communities

Resident and parent Sarah Lenehan is the St Bees Community Lead for the Plastic Free Communities campaign. The Surfers Against Sewage campaign uses community action to tackle single-use plastics.

Sarah wants others to join her to form a steering group for the project. “If you want to make a difference in your community and help lead our effort to reduce the flow of unnecessary plastics into the marine environment, get in touch,” she said.

You can contact her at plasticfreestbees@gmail.com, through the Plastic Free St Bees Facebook and Instagram pages and by telephone on 0754 5026156.

She added: “Through raising awareness, community clean-ups, encouraging changes in behaviour and asking businesses to swap single-use plastics for sustainable alternatives, we can achieve our vision.”

The group’s first event is a litter pick on Friday September 14, at the St Bees lifeboat station at 10am. Bags will be provided, but please bring gloves.
