Tributes have been paid to a man who died on the A66 near Keswick.

David Robinson, 53, who lived in the town, was pronounced dead by paramedics after being found injured at 7.30am on Wednesday.

Mr Robinson was a member of Keswick Athletic Club.

The club took to Facebook to pay tribute.

A spokesman said: "It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of our clubmate David Robinson.

"David was a hugely keen runner, being active with not just Keswick Athletic Club but also Keswick parkrun (having recently completed 100 parkruns) and the New Balance group.

"He recently acheived a 10k personal best at the DH Rivers Run 10k,

"The thoughts of everyone at Keswick Athletic Club are with his family at this tragic time."

Mike Beezey said: "Incredibly sad, I was running with Dave on Monday night with New Balance, he was happy with his Penrith park run time and looking to beat it this Saturday."

Lee Procter said: "So, so sad. On behalf of everyone at Helm Hill Runners we pass on our deepest condolences to the family and everyone at Keswick AC."

Dave Graham said: "Oh my goodness. This is incredibly sad news. David was a great guy who I have known for many years. My condolences to his family and friends."

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

They thought Mr Robinson may have been hit by a lorry but that the driver may not have been aware of the collision.

They have since found and spoken to the driver.
