THE sky above Derwentwater will play host to flying displays this weekend as an aerobatic team and a group of skydivers join the entertainment at Keswick Mountain Festival.

AeroSPARX aerobatic stunt display team and the Osprey Skydiving team will join forces to create the Blacks Air Display at the event, which starts today and runs until Sunday.

Displays will take place at 7.45pm on Friday and Saturday, as thousands of visitors gather in Crow Park for the event’s live music programme.

Now in its 12th year, Keswick Mountain Festival offers a packed programme featuring music, sporting events and outdoor adventures.

It will centre around the festival village in Crow Park, where two nights of live music will feature acts such as Melanie C, Peter Hook and The Light, The Farm and The Peatbog Faeries.

Ticket holders will be entertained on both nights by the AeroSPARX team, who will light up the sky in Grob109b gliders, while the Osprey team will swoop over Derwentwater tonight, trailing coloured smoke, before landing in Crow Park.

Both displays are weather dependant and the Ospreys will try again tomorrow if they cannot perform tonight.

Outdoor retailer Blacks is sponsoring the air display as well as being the festival’s official retail partner.

Nicola Meadley, festival director, said: “We are thrilled to confirm the Blacks Air Display as part of an already exciting and packed line up for Keswick Mountain Festival 2018. Derwentwater and the Lakeland fells are going to provide a stunning stage for the AeroSPARX and Osprey teams - their displays will be an amazing sight for everyone who is on Crow Park for our live music line-up. It’s going to be a brilliant spectacle.”

Entry to the festival village is free between until 5pm and the site will play host to a range of stalls and activities, with other things to do happening around he surrounding area. The site opens at 10am today and 9am tomorrow and Sunday.

Outdoor activities include navigation training, walks, canoeing and bushcraft sessions.

There will be sporting events including cycling, swimming, running and triathlons.

A selection of talks will also be held.

There will be a festival campsite at Springs Farm, Springs Road, a short walk from Crow Park.
