A global pizza chain has plans to open its THIRD outlet in Carlisle - creating 20 new jobs.

Domino's, which has outlets on London Road and Old Raffles Parade, wants to open on Kingstown Road.

It has applied to Carlisle City Council for planning permission to turn the former Carphone Warehouse shop from a retail unit into a hot food takeaway.

The site is next door to Majestic Wine.

The planning application states that the pizza shop would create 20 news jobs - 14 full time and six part time.

The hours of opening would be 11am to 11pm seven days a week.

The city council has received a couple of objections to the plans.

These relate to noise, smell, an increase in vermin, lack of parking and the location of the takeaway in a residential area.

Osian Roberts, a planner with DPP on behalf of Domino's, said in his application: "The application proposal will result in the beneficial reuse of a vacant unit in a prominent roadside location where a number of other commercial uses exist - this will enhance the character and appearance of the area, and more importantly, the vitality and viability of the area through providing a vibrant food and drink offer."

The firm opened in the former Blockbuster shop on Old Raffles Parade earlier this year, creating about 25 new jobs.

The site had been vacant since 2013 when Blockbuster closed the shop after struggling in administration.

The American-owned company hoped to open 80 new stores this year (2017).
It said that online operations were helping business.

The pizza giants opened their first UK store in Luton in 1985. Twenty years later they were operating from 400 stores throughout the UK.

Today they are operating from more than 900 stores across the UK and in addition have stores in Germany and Switzerland.

It is not yet known when work will start to transform the unit if planning permission is granted.
