Lord Walney and journalist Isabel Hardman have announced their separation.
The former Barrow MP John Woodcock married Ms Hardman in August 2021.
A spokesman for Lord Walney and Ms Hardman said: "John and Isabel separated earlier this year and will divorce in due course.
"They remain friends and committed co-parents."
The pair had tied the knot in a ceremony held at Barrow registry office inside the town hall.
Lord Walney described the wedding as "super small and simple", with the event attended by "just the kids and two witnesses at Barrow registry office!"
Writing on social media following the ceremony, Lord Walney said he was "over the moon" to marry Ms Hardman, adding: "We are so happy."
Ms Hardman had announced the nuptials online with the message: "We got married today!"
The couple had welcomed their first child together in May 2020.
Lord Walney represented Barrow and Furness in the House of Commons for nine years after being elected in 2010.
He left the Labour Party in 2018 to sit as an independent MP, later announcing in 2019 that he would not contest the upcoming general election.
In 2020, Mr Woodcock pledged to “be a lifelong champion for our incredible area” after being granted the title Lord Walney by Her Majesty the Queen.
Ms Hardman, one of Westminster's most prominent political journalists and broadcasters, is an assistant editor of The Spectator and presents BBC Radio 4's Week in Westminster.
The award-winning journalist has also authored books including Why We Get The Wrong Politicians, The Natural Health Service and Fighting for Life.
