A walker was rescued from Sale Fell after injuring their ankle.

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out at 3.29pm on October 11, marking their third call-out of the day.

Eleven team members responded to the incident, with two vehicles already nearby following a previous rescue.

A third vehicle travelled from the team’s base.

On arrival, volunteers found the walker in pain but in good spirits.

They provided pain relief, splinted the injured ankle, and stretchered the casualty down to a nearby gate.

The walker was then able to leave the scene in a companion’s car and was taken to West Cumberland Hospital for further treatment.

The operation took one hour and 45 minutes.

All three incidents attended by the team that day involved casualties needing assistance on the fells.
