A Carlisle theatre group which began with just 20 students is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a special show at The Sands Centre.

Rocket Theatre Group, which now welcomes more than 150 young people each week, will mark the milestone with a showcase on November 7, bringing together performers from its junior and senior sections.

The production, 10 - A Celebration of 10 Years of Rocket Theatre Group, follows sell-out runs of Shrek and Aladdin and will feature music from previous shows alongside previews of future productions.

Founder Wendy Dunn said: "We are delighted to have grown from just 20 students to more than 150 young people aged four to 18 who now come through the doors of our studio each week.

"This show recognises our students, their families, and our amazing team of teachers and volunteers, who have made Rocket the fantastic place it is today."

Wendy founded Rocket alongside Jack Dunn in 2016, and the group has since brought a wide range of productions to the stage, including Moana, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Into the Woods and Spamalot!

Its members have also performed beyond the theatre, taking part in celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, appearing on stage with Boyzlife and supporting community events organised by the Royal British Legion, Age Concern and the Museum of Military Life.

In 2021, Rocket found an unusual new home within the grounds of Carlisle Castle.

The group transformed the former Officers' Mess in the castle's Outer Ward into studios which now host weekly music, drama and dance activities.

The anniversary performance will celebrate that journey, with a programme featuring selections from Hamilton and Hadestown, alongside music by Chappell Roan and Motown favourites.

There will also be guest performances of work created by Rocket for Kingmoor Junior School and Trinity School, bringing even more young performers into the celebrations.

Tickets for the November 7 show are available from The Sands Centre box office.
