WORK is progressing on the Carlisle Market Hall Bus Hub improvement project, with Cumberland Council reporting good progress on the city-centre upgrade.
The scheme, funded through the Bus Services Improvement Programme, began on September 1 and aims to create a more welcoming and accessible environment for passengers.
Recent work includes new Lazonby sandstone paving, a tree pit around the retained tree finished with Italian porphyry cobblestone setts, and granite kerbing along the bus-stop frontage.
Groundwork beneath the Market Hall canopy has been completed alongside electrical ducting, chambers, feeder pillars and connections for new lighting and power systems.
Temporary bus stops are in operation, with extra barriers protecting the active work area.
The council is asking pedestrians to follow diversions. Phase one is expected to finish by November 2026, with reopening before Christmas.
Phase two starts in January.
