Residents invited to review local polling arrangements

Westmorland and Furness Council has launched a review of polling districts, places, and stations to ensure the voting process remains accessible, convenient, and suitable for all.

The consultation is open until October 5.

Linda Jones, director for law and governance at the council, said: "Voting is one of the most important ways people can have their say in local and national democracy.

"We want to make sure that polling arrangements continue to meet the needs of our communities, so we're encouraging residents to tell us whether current arrangements work well in their area and to suggest improvements where they feel they are needed."

The council is particularly keen to hear from residents and organisations with expertise in accessibility and supporting people with disabilities.

Feedback is also welcomed from registered electors, local political parties, MPs, councillors, parish and town councils, and community groups.

All comments received as part of the review will be published anonymously on the council’s website.

Westmorland and Furness spans four parliamentary constituencies: Barrow and Furness, Morecambe and Lunesdale, Penrith and Solway, and Westmorland and Lonsdale.

The council is seeking views not only on current arrangements but also on any proposed changes from acting returning officers for these constituencies.

Residents can share their feedback through the council’s website, by emailing reviews@westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk, or by post to Electoral Services, Voreda House, Portland Place, Penrith, CA11 7BF.

Review documents are available for public inspection at Barrow Town Hall, Kendal Town Hall, and Voreda House in Penrith.

Final proposals will be considered by Westmorland and Furness Council on November 26.

The outcome of the review will be published on the council’s website.
