ALL roads lead to promotion for a West Cumbrian rugby league side, who will head to Wakefield later this month to fight for their place as league champions.
Workington Town Ladies beat Leigh Miners Rangers 68-0 in the play-off semi-final at the Fibrus Community Stadium in Workington on Sunday, September 6.
Commenting on the ladies’ victory in a statement on social media, Workington Town RLFC said: “A performance packed with teamwork, determination, strong defence and some great individual tries.
Congratulations to Gareth, Joe, the support team and the playing squad. One more to go. Well done everyone!”
The ladies are now just 80 minutes away from promotion after an incredible season, with fans gathering in the marquee following the semi-final match to congratulate players on their wonderful performance.
Speaking about the win and their road to the play-offs, Workington Town Ladies RLFC manager Janette Fearon said: “I’m incredibly proud of the team and can’t wait to see them give it everything in the play off final.
“It’s such a huge achievement for everyone involved at Workington Town Ladies. They have worked hard all season, and it really shows in the performances on the pitch.”
The ladies will now head to Wakefield on Sunday, September 20 to play Wakefield Trinity in the final with three busloads of fans set to go and watch the ladies when they take part in the final, as well as fans set to travel in cars.
