A FIFTEEN-year-old girl was subjected to a sexual assault near Carlisle city centre by a repeat offender who was sent to the city after his release from prison.
The teenager’s "terrifying" ordeal was described at the city’s Rickergate court, where a District Judge told the offender involved, 23-year-old Balazs Boros, that he is a “sexual menace,” who is a danger to women and children.
The defendant admitted sexually assaulting the teenager and also breaching a sexual harm prevention which forbids from approaching any female child in that way following earlier sexual offending.
Prosecutor Diane Jackson outlined the facts.
“A sexual harm prevention order had been made [at Liverpool Crown Court] but he has breached that order by going out and committing this horrific offence against a young girl,” said Mrs Jackson.
“She was walking home. When she noticed a male looking at her and as she approached, he said that she ‘looked cute.’
“The girl didn’t respond and he began following her.
“She ran away out of fear, and he also began running after her, but she lost one of her sandals, which caused her to stop.”
It was as the teenager was trying to retrieve her sandal that Boros grabbed her sexually, making her scream for help. Mrs Jackson continued: “In her statement, she said she thought she was going to die
“She managed to run away, going home where she was crying hysterically.” The defendant was arrested at city centre approved premises where he was sent to live after he was released from his last jail term.
When the police officers arrived, he immediately told them: “I am guilty; I know I did it.” The prosecutor added: “This was a terrifying incident for the young girl.
"This defendant is a significant danger to any young person who may have been walking around Carlisle at that time.”
District Judge Philip Holden described the assault as a “terrifying stranger attack,” committed by a defendant who has a poor record for sexual offending.
He committed the assault after being released for an earlier breach of his sexual harm prevention order.
A probation officer in court said Boros had now been recalled to prison until April next year.
District Judge Holden ordered a background report, stipulating that it should include an assessment of the danger posed to the public by Boros.
The told the defendant: “In my view, you are a sexual menace – a danger to women and a danger to children.”
He was sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a sentencing hearing on October 2. In the meantime, the defendant will remain remanded in custody.
Boros, who until his arrest was living in a city centre probation hostel, spoke only to confirm his details and to enter his pleas.
