Search the Public Notice PortalA FORMER Egremont pub could be transformed into a health, wellbeing and training hub aimed at supporting adults and young people.
The Lounge Health Hub CIC has lodged plans to convert the ground floor of the former Cat Inn at 25 Main Street, with proposals also showing a substantial makeover of the building's frontage.
The premises, which were most recently used as a restaurant, would provide health and wellbeing treatments, social prescribing, community activities and education and training.
A planning statement submitted with the application says: "The Lounge Health Hub CIC has been established to provide a long-term community resource in Egremont.
"The aim is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment which complements existing local services and provides practical opportunities for local people."
Plans for the building show three treatment rooms, a further CIC treatment room, a spray tan room, staff facilities and an academy lounge.
Training and education would form a significant part of the proposed operation.
The planning statement says: "A dedicated training and academy element will form an important part of the proposed use.
"The facility will provide practical training and development opportunities for young people and adults, including those who may benefit from additional support in developing confidence, skills and employability."
The organisation is developing relationships with West Lakes Academy and the Pupil Referral Unit in Workington, and letters outlining their intended use of the facility have been submitted with the application.
An additional document lodged with Cumberland Council says letters of support have also been provided by Whitehaven and Workington MP Josh MacAlister, councillor Sam Pollen and Emma Broughan from Social Prescribing.
The former pub's rear beer garden would meanwhile be brought back into use as a landscaped wellbeing and community garden, providing space for relaxation, therapeutic activities and planting.
The building is currently vacant and undergoing renovation.
Application documents say it had been unused for more than 12 months before work started and had not operated as a pub for around eight years or more.
The proposed external changes include repainting the frontage and installing new signage for The Lounge Health Hub CIC, with submitted visuals showing the building finished in cream and muted green.
Unlike its former pub use, activities at the hub would predominantly take place through appointments and scheduled sessions rather than late-night entertainment.
Proposed opening hours are 9am to 6pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.
One full-time and two part-time jobs are proposed.
