TWO north Cumbrian men have appeared before a court accused of having nearly 60 nitrous oxide cannisters with intent to supply.
Carlisle based Nelson Cayne, 21, and Matthew Scott, 33, from Dalston, are also charged with "being concerned in" the supply of Class B cannabis between June and August this year.
Cayne, of Meadow View, Carlisle, also faces two additional charges.
One is the alleged offence of blackmail involving an “unwarranted demand” for £2,000, with prosecutors saying this happened in Carlisle on August 24.
The second additional charge faced by Cayne is arson.
He is accused of committing that offence by setting fire to a Mercedes car on Sunday, December 14 last year. The nitrous oxide – or laughing gas – allegation relates to 57 cannisters of the class C substance.
The defendants are accused of possessing those with intent to supply on August 25. Neither Cayne nor Scott entered pleas to the above alleged offences when they appeared before the city’s Rickergate court.
After hearing details of the prosecution at Carlisle’s Rickergate court, District Judge Philip Holden remanded Cayne in custody until the men appear at the city’s crown court for a plea and directions hearing on October 1.
Scott was granted bail on condition that he continues to live and sleep each night at his Lingyclose address in Dalston.
Arson allegations have to be dealt with at a crown court.
