Young Cumbrian athletes have been flying the flag for the county with some top successes in a host of events.
Medals aplenty were brought back to the county after a series of impressive performances.
June began with the North of England Under-18, Under-20 and Senior Outdoor Championship at Hull’s Costello Stadium, at which four medals were claimed by Cumbrians from Border Harriers Athletic Club in Carlisle.
Joshua Reibbitt took gold in the U20 hammer throw with a best throw of 54.67 – a personal best for the young Cumbrian.
His success was matched by that of Erin Barry, who won the women’s U20 1500m in a time of 4.47.15min – also a personal best.
In the men’s U20 javelin, Callum James was on the podium with a silver medal after a best attempt of 51.85m.
Ben Nutter also brought home a medal after taking bronze in the men’s senior 1500m in a time of 4.24.09min.
Later in June, the North of England Under-14/16 Championships at Leigh saw further Cumbrian success.
Amy Johnstone from Carlisle Aspatria AC produced a top performance to win gold in the under-16 girls’ 200m, leading the field with a time of 24.96 – setting a championship record in the process.
Seaton’s Alice Maddams was also top of the podium in the javelin, her best throw of 37.86m proving enough for gold.
Bronze, meanwhile, was claimed by Border Harriers’ Georgina Gaunt in the high jump after she cleared 1.55m – a personal best.
Elsewhere, the North West Combined Events Championship at Ellesmere Port saw Keswick’s Freddie Strong excel to win the intermediate boys’ octathlon.
Fellow Cumbrian Jonah Causey finished fourth, with their combined efforts helping Cumbria to a point total of 11,511, topping the table in that event – and earning Cumbria an overall place of fifth at the championships, securing a place in September’s national final in Bedford.
