A DRIVER has been fined and handed penalty points for breaking a temporary speed limit on a motorway.

Emma Hartley, of Firswood Mount in Gatley, Stockport, was found guilty in her absence at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on June 26, 2026.

She was convicted of exceeding a 40mph temporary speed restriction on the M6 in Cumbria.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2025, near Clifton Bridge in Penrith, while driving a Volkswagen.

The area was subject to a temporary limit due to ongoing roadworks between junctions 39 and 40.

Hartley was fined £440 and ordered to pay £150 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. She must also pay a £176 victim surcharge.

Her driving record has been endorsed with five penalty points.
