Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team has issued a hot weather warning, aiming to ensure the safety of the public on the fells.
They have urged the public to think twice before heading out into the uplands, which offer little shade from the sun.
On the fells, heat reflects off the rock and dehydration can set in fast.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said in a statement on Facebook: "If you’re struggling in the heat, imagine how hot our volunteers get when carrying medical bags, stretchers, ropes, water, and technical kit up steep ground in full PPE."
The rescue team have suggested that people ask themselves the following questions before they head out:
- Is this the right day for a big route?
- Do I have enough water for myself and my dog?
- Do I have a backup plan if the heat becomes too much?
- Can I shorten my route to stay safe?
Owners of dogs are advised that if it is too hot for a human, it is also too hot for a dog.
Dogs can’t sweat like humans and they are liable to overheat quickly - especially on hot rock, long ascents, and in direct sun.
