Cumbria food lovers looking for a standout day trip are being pointed less than two hours from Penrith after a North Yorkshire pub was named among the prettiest in the UK.

The Michelin Guide has released a list of the UK’s prettiest village pubs, and the Star Inn was one of the spots highlighted by the culinary guide.

The pub can be found in the quaint village of Harome and has already been awarded a Michelin star and three AA Rosettes.

The pub is set in a 14th-century inn with a thatched roof and rustic interiors.

What did the Michelin Guide say about the Star Inn at Harome?

On the pub, the Michelin Guide said: “The most fervent foodies among you should make this your must-visit destination when in Yorkshire.

"A cute and quaint village inn that also serves Michelin star cooking, it’s a real place to be treasured.

“As soon as you glimpse its thatched roof, you know you’re in for a treat, with the hugely characterful and quirky interior delivering on the promise.

"What’s most endearing about the place is that you really know you’re in Yorkshire, with the area’s finest produce proudly used across the enticing menus.”

At the pub, you can enjoy one of the seasonal tasting menus that feature the Star Inn Signature Dish, which comes with grilled black pudding and pan-fried Foie Gras.

If you prefer to have something from the à la carte menu, there are plenty of choices such as monkfish and veal for mains and scallops to start off with, alongside puddings including the Star Inn walnut whip and soufflé.

The pub’s website said: “Under Andrew Pern's ownership since 1996, The Star Inn Restaurant has built up an admirable catalogue of awards and accolades, including a much treasured Michelin star, for its seasonal produce-led menus inspired by its Yorkshire locality.

“Chef/Director, Stephen Smith, named Yorkshire Life's Chef of the Year 2023, continues to develop The Star's menus maintaining the same sense of terroir and established standards.”

If you want to extend your stay at the Star Inn at Harome, you can book one of the 13 rooms found just across the road that are also looked after by the pub.

The rooms can be found in converted farm buildings and stables with the dining room located in the old wheelhouse.

On TripAdvisor, the pub has been described as a “gastronomic delight” and “the very best of what a pub can be”.

Another reviewer said: “We had stayed here and ate in the restaurant a few years ago and decided to try it again, on the spur of the moment.

"They couldn’t have been more accommodating and welcoming.

“We had our dog with us so they set us up with a table in the bar and gave us a choice of food off any of the menus.

"The food was phenomenal! There was a great choice of drinks and the whole experience was perfect. We loved it.”
