A popular bowling competition has helped raise hundreds of pounds for charity.
Croft Bowling Club in Cockermouth held its second Pub and Club Bowls competition and raised more than £300.
A total of 16 teams entered with different businesses and organisations from across the town taking part. They included Jennings Brewery, The Swan Inn, Cockermouth WI and Cartmell Shepherd solicitors.
Each team consisted of three players who had never played bowls before and the club gave them some practice sessions during May to show them the ropes and explain the art of bowls.
On the day the competition was fierce and some fantastic bowling.
The winners were:
- First place: Black Bull C
- 2nd TBC, the Black Bull B team
- 3rd Backroom Boys from The Swan Inn
- 4th Stitched Up! from Cockermouth WI
Shot of the day was awarded to Claire Ackerley from Cartmell Shepherd. A raffle in aid of The Wooden Spoon Rugby Charity raised £320.
In the semi-final, the average age of TBC was 24 and at the other end of the scale The WI team averaged nearly 80 years of age.
The event was set up to introduce people to the game of bowls and have some fun. Everybody had a great day, the sun came out and the club is hoping to recruit some new members, the club said.
