A man has appeared in court accused of raping a woman.

Hamid Korom, 30, is charged with raping a woman in Carlisle on February 14.

He is accused of engaging in sexual activity without her consent and without reasonably believing she was consenting.

Korom appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, confirming his name, date of birth, and address, which is listed as Summerhill on London Road.

He did not enter a plea to the charge, which is indictable only and must be heard at crown court due to its seriousness.

During the 10-minute hearing, the prosecution provided a brief outline of the allegation.

Korom was remanded in custody by a district judge.

No application for bail was made by the defendant’s solicitor.

The case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court, where Korom is due to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on June 2.
