German students tour Story Homes development in Carlisle

12 students from the Eckener-Schule in Flensburg, Germany, toured the Scotby Grove site, developed by Story Homes, as part of a partnership with Carlisle College.

Calum Wright, head of curriculum, construction and tech services at Carlisle College, said: "It was fantastic to welcome our German partners and give these students an authentic experience of a UK construction site.

"A huge thank you to Story Homes for hosting us—seeing live projects helped the students understand real-world applications of their learning and gave them an international perspective on the construction industry."

During their visit, students observed a range of trades in action and compared UK building techniques with those used in Germany.

The experience was part of an educational partnership between the two colleges, which are officially twinned.

Carl Phillips, production manager at Story Homes, said: "We’re delighted to have hosted the students at Scotby Grove.

"It was a great chance to share our knowledge, showcase the high standards we maintain on site, and inspire the next generation of construction professionals."

Construction at the Scotby Grove site began in August last year, with the first homes now in progress and a show home set to open in June.

The development will include 112 homes, 33 of which are designated as affordable housing.

Designed for modern family living, the homes will feature open-plan layouts, bi-fold doors, kitchen islands, and high-quality fixtures and fittings throughout.

A Story Homes spokesperson said in a statement: "The scheme also includes public open spaces, biodiversity enhancements, and over £358,000 in Section 106 contributions supporting local schools, recreational facilities, and green infrastructure."
